How to blow volume in thin, straight hair

I have thin, straight hair that falls straight down like a waterfall. For years I have been absolutely envious of women with full, thick and bouncy hair. Recognisable feeling?

Treat your hair with care

As many thinned haired people I have gone through those terrible teenage years where my desire for volume made me do regrettable things. Curling irons, permanently setting curls with chemicals were some of the horrors I’ve put my hair through. You know the kind of torture that leaves your hair completely dried out and damaged. However, it did taught me a very valuable lesson: treat your hair with care!

In 2014 when I’d just returned to Antwerp from living in London, I was looking for a new hair stylist. I ended up knocking on the door of Pascal van Loenhout, an internationally acclaimed Belgian hair stylist and global design director of KEVIN.MURPHY. Pascal taught me not to fight the nature of my own hair and its qualities but to own its unique aspects. He is famous for his ‘unhairdressy’ very natural cuts. What I absolutely adore about Pascal’s way of working is that he is not fixated on the traditional salon looks. Instead he focuses on matching a person’s hairdo with their style.

Kevin Murphy Plumping Line

Rather than layering my hair as so many other hair stylist do to create fake volume, Pascal cut it straight, all at the same length. Last fall we added bangs to the look, as they shape and highlight my face more. Next to giving me a phenomenal haircut, Pascal recommended me to use the KEVIN.MURPHY plumping line. Ever since my hair is fuller and more voluminous than ever before, even if I don’t airwrap it.

The plumping line uses eyelash thickening and lengthening technology to create volume and thickness on thin, fine hair without weighing it down. The shampoo called PLUMPING.WASH contains ginger root and nettle extracts that help stimulate the scalp. While the conditioner, PLUMPING.RINSE, hydrates the hair with shea butter and conditioning agents to give that shine and silky soft texture. I combine the plumping line with EVER.BOUNCE a lasting hold, heat-activated style extender whilst blowdrying my hair with the Dyson Airwrap to create those bouncy locks with a smooth finish.

About Kevin Murphy

Just like Pascal, Kevin Murphy followed into the footsteps of his hairstylist mother and moved to London to learn the latest hair techniques. When he returned to Australia years later as a well sought after hair stylist he decides to start his own company, bringing a skincare philosophy to hair products.

He combines hi-tech scientific knowledge with the best natural ingredients available such as Mango,Peruvian Bark, Bamboo, Orchid, Lotus Flower and Orange Blossom. With them he creates products that provide a high fashion look whilst being kind to the environment. The Kevin Murphy brand is about fashion, performance and environment which is why it’s the perfect style match for me. That and it blows volume into my thin, straight hair.
