The Hadid sisters killed it at Paris Fashion Week! Moreover, they were E-V-E-R-Y-Where this fashion month. In all honesty, I didn’t really feel it this season, especially Paris Fashion Week was sort of underwhelming for me. I did not have a true wow feeling with any of the collections. So instead of sharing my 3 favourite shows/collections, I thought I’d share some remarkable outfits and facts.
Fact: The Hadid sisters nailed it!
Gigi and especially Bella were everywhere this fashion month, and they showed some killer outfits during Paris Fashion Week. Firstly, Bella’s sprayed on dress at the Coperni show was an amazing example of innovation in the industry and wow what a showstopper. Followed by Gigi’s suit look at Stella McCartney which was fire. I can already see myself walking into work with such a power look. Both girls looked amazing at Victoria Beckham’s Parisian Debut. Their looks were perfectly tailored, elegant and vibrant.
Art at Loewe and BALMAIN
The two shows that stuck out for me in terms of artistic and creative designs were those by J.W. Anderson at Loewe and by Olivier Rousteing at BALMAIN. Rousteing is growing more and more confident in exploring his personal themes through his designs. Building on his bandage theme of last season he inserted roman cultural elements and sustainably sourced materials like paper, banana & wicker. At Loewe, J.W. Anderson found his inspiration in the Anthurium flower, a beautiful yet poisonous bloom. He envisioned that the ladies wearing his designs would feel more dangerous than dainty. Although, both collections were a creative pleasure for the eye, I do wonder how well they will perform in retail. I personally don’t see myself wearing any of the designs and at Balmain, the models even struggled to walk in them.
Is this for real?
Balenciaga
After last season’s snow storm this season’s Balenciaga show was held in a mud pit. Kanye West opened the show with a military inspired looking vest. Demna Gvasalia put Balanciaga back on the radar. However, if I’m honest I’m not sure if what he’s doing is Fashion. His collections are always very politically inspired, this season he drew inspiration from war and fleeing his home country Georgia with his family. Yet I can’t help but wonder that I see fashion more as an escape, an aspiration rather than a way to amplify the drag, pain and misery of the world.
